One of the most rewarding ways to experience the
natural beauty of Exmoor is from horseback, and we can accommodate
any of our guests who wish to hire quality horses and try this for
themselves, either accompanied or otherwise, by putting them in
touch with one of several local stables.

Exmoor is rightly renowned as the finest hunting
country in the British Isles, and Withypool, at the centre of the
moor, gives easy access to many Meets throughout the season (August
to April). There are four packs of hounds with which to hunt - The
Devon and Somerset Staghounds, The Exmoor Foxhounds, The Dulverton
West Foxhounds and The Dulverton Farmers Foxhounds. Stabling can be
arranged for guests wishing to bring their own horses or,
alternatively, we can arrange for the hire of good quality hunters.

|
|
Clay shooting is available throughout the year,
and lessons with qualified instructors can easily be arranged,
catering for for beginners as well as experienced
shots.
Simulated game days can also be organised for groups
of 8/10 guns - great fun and a good way to keep your eye in during
the summer months. |
|
|
There are many local shoots, renowned for the
quality of their birds, where formal days (100-300 birds) or simpler
walked-up days are available. We know all the local shoot owners and
can easily put you in contact with them or their agents.

Some of the best river and still-water fishing on
Exmoor is available locally, where brown and rainbow trout may be
caught, with an occasional grilse or autumn salmon.
Tuition
and tackle-hire can also be arranged, if required.
|
|
|
For those wishing to follow the hunt in comfort, or simply watch
and photograph Exmoor's wild Red Deer or ponies, a 12-seater Land
Rover with chauffeur/guide can be arranged

On Exmoor you can walk along miles of sign-posted
track, often without seeing another person for hours. Withypool is
the starting point for various routes of varying lengths. The
medieval bridge at Landacre and the old clapper bridge at Tarr Steps
are both within easy walking distance of Withypool, while, for the
more adventurous, the Two Moors Way passes right through the
village.
We will gladly advise our guests on the areas where
they will best enjoy their walking, and we have various maps and
publications with which they can plan a route.
